Introduction to our primates

ASUS/WAO offers permanent sanctuary to all species of primates. Many are retired from medical research and are potential virus carriers. The sanctuary utilizes bio-safety level 2 procedures.

Thousands of primates in medical research are singularly housed in small cages and are warehoused or euthanized after they are no longer needed. The sanctuary offers an alternative to these deserving animals.

ASUS/WAO DOES NOT CONDONE ANIMAL RELATED RESEARCH!

ASUS/WAO believes that EVERY animal used in research deserves the right to permanent retirement in a humane and safe environment.

ASUS/WAO strongly believes that the research community should be responsible for the funds needed by credible sanctuaries to provide these animals with quality housing and lifetime care.

This same position statement applies to the pet primate industry and the entertainment industry.

Primates placed at the sanctuary by roadside attractions, pet owners, circuses and zoos:

Macaques (Rhesus, Stumptail, Pigtail, Javan, and Barbary)

Patas Monkeys

Capuchins

Lemurs

Baboons (Yellow, Olive and Hamadryas)

Chimpanzees

All once singularly housed primates are integrated into social colonies and are housed in large natural enclosures where they are thriving happily.
